He barely had features in both Born Sinner and Sideline Story... with Born Sinner, it was JUST Kendrick on a hook and TLC on the hook and the bonus tracks with Fiddy and Jhene. And Sideline Story was label enforced.

And the features isn't an issue when you go double platinum WITHOUT them the previous album. He sold more records outside of DRAKE than any rapper currently OUT to include Kendrick and this is while not having any feature. He's content at where he is at now. What's the necessity for him to go seek for features at his point of the game? And collaborations are cool... but it is not a NEED and that's been lost in hip hop today. But since day one J. Cole been going against the grain from what mainstream tells you to do. They always tell you to hop on that hot new featured artist, they always tell you to come up with that lazy pop radio single, they always concern with imagery, and downplaying the intellect of their audience. That's why we got these down-syndrome rappers currently popping now with generic trap beats that are like 5 minutes to make on a computer. Long gone is the freedom of expression. Long gone is the art and craftsmanship of music. Say what you will about THIS album, but it is hard for someone like J. Cole to devolve back to how he was when he just spit to impress people with his wordplay and endlessly sample tracks and loop them over a drum beat. For people want that Nostalgic type J. Cole, he gave you a piece last week, but the reality is and has been for the last few years that he evolved and matured. It's like asking Andre3000 to go back to rapping the way he did on Southernplayalistic.... you're NEVER going to have that Andre again... he's on a totally different vibe.
His sound is safe and repetitive. That's why people want to see him step outside his comfort zone and work with different people. Not just rappers, but producers, singers, musicians etc.

We know stans such as yourself feel that everything he releases is perfect. J. Cole knows this as well. That's why no risks will be taken by him as long as his stans support him the way they do.

It reminds me of Eminem's career. Plenty of fans wanted him to use different producers, get away from him always producing his shyt. Cole the same way. But hey, it's not broke so don't fix it.

Keep giving the people what they want Cole.

yes, we've seen him spit and he's better at it than his struggle mos def impression vocals. take your cape off, dude dropped some teasers that are 180 degrees separated from what the album is, people have a right to feel blindsided and/or be disappointed
He did the same thing with FHD.

Remember 'Be Free'? He put that out, did Letterman and performed it with a dope added verse the same week the album dropped... Then you get FHD and it's NOTHING like that. Master at misdirection, Jermaine Cole.

I like this album. Might be his most cohesive project IMO

Nothing crazy, but a nice lil album. Cole has a decent catalog building up

It's definitely Cole's most ambitious album yet, but not everything here hits the mark. I can understand why so many people found it disappointing, especially when compared to "2014 Forest Hills Drive," but it's not terrible.

What are you talking about. False Prophets and Everybody Dies is the definition of Cole being in his comfort zone, meanwhile this album sees him stepping waaaay the fukk out of what he usually does. And from what I've seen, the people who are mad at this album are mad because he did something different and not what they expected.

You're also incorrect because he actually did let other producers cook on this, (Boi-1da, Vinylz, Cardiak) and gave Elite more placements when he usually produces mostly everything by himself and lets Elite do something here and there.

I'm pretty clear in what I'm saying.

This album has the same vibe/sound as FHD. How you figure this is him stepping away from what he usually does when sonically this sounds like his last album?

I love how this album has exposed the hypebeast fans. nikkas talking bout how it's boring and all that other dumb shyt. nikka put out a joint with real shyt based on the current climate of the country and all these cocksuckas can say is "I can't turn up to this". Glad to know u only hopped on the cole wagon about 2-3 years ago and had no clue about his rise in the game and the music he made way back. I hate you nikkas with a passion. False Prophets.

"Step away" maybe isn't the right word but its a definite update for one, but you act like rappers completely reinvent themselves every single effort and Cole's the only one not doing it. You also act like Cole hasn't progressed at all since his debut which I don't know how you can say if you listen to his music
