Man fukk ALL the bullshyt as a new father this album hit me hard as hell. I was planning on trying to listen to this, soul, and Charles Hamilton tonight but this Cole album is the TRUTH. He delivered on all cylinders.

A couple people hit me up asking about a review but after this post I'm not going to be on here much the next three days as I'm filming the first episode of my web series this weekend so that's going to take up the bulk of my time but I can't WAIT to write something for this album man...

Looks like we're going to have very different opinions. This is becoming a trend with me as I become older though, and might be a reflection of the role music has in my life versus yours. The people who "live" music always seem to find something in albums that I just don't. Being relatable doesn't mean much to me if I don't like the songs. On first listen, I was bored out of my mind with the exception of a few tracks. I didn't like most of the production or anything.. Not the singing either. I feel like we're in the era where everyone can have their own niche audience and as long as you give people what they want, they can never be upset. Music has always been subjective, but now it's super subjective to the point where if a song is trash but it relates to your experience, we have to acknowledge that it's dope in some ways. I'll see people talk about how a song with dope production is trash because it means nothing and turn around and talk about how great another song is with a generic beat because it's "relatable."

I don't live through music anymore and maybe that limits me as a reviewer. I don't listen to it looking for it to connect to my life experience or confirm my beliefs. I just want it to be dope. Because the shyt people have been calling "classic" these past few years, I just go :manny:. If you can't tell, this is going to be my angle. "How do I review artists like J. Cole whose entire goal is to be relatable to people? How does one rate relatability?" I be out here feeling guilty to say what I really feel about shyt because it means something to some people.

Ya, a few listen threw. Whole album is about becoming a dad in this time and place. And obviously Cole rapped about it from many different perspectives.

Listened to the entire album all the way through. Solid 8/10. Favorite tracks are Immortal, Deja vu, and 4 Your Eyez Only.

That "4 Your Eyez Only" track is real as fukk :ehh:. Lyrical, deep, timeless, and speaks about real shyt from multiple perspectives of the black community. One of the GOAT songs for black people IMO. :manny:

I am a Jay Z Stan at the highest level. So anything he would touch when I was a teen I automatically rocked with. Jay association with Bleek had me thinking he would be one of the GOATs, Young Guns as good as Mobb Deep. Jay made me look pass Kanye homo ways. I thought Amil would be up there with Foxy & Kim. Hell I even thought Aztec & Lady Sovereign had next:russ:

But I listen to every Cole album I just can't rock with him at all. I want to so bad because I know he care and put full effort in his work. He just so meh to me. His success got me :mindblown:
I didn't expect it at all. I'm happy his fans like his music. shyt crazy. Idk Cole should be a rapper music I love, but I don't like it all. outside of some tracks here and there I just don't feel him :martin:

My faves were change and neighbors.

Folding clothes and she's mine part 2 was really cute.

I hope it's a mixtape. This isn't good enough to be an ablum, but it's fine for a mixtape.

Wtf is this shyt?!!?!!!?!!!

How Cole gon talk shyt about Kanye when this shyt ain't even better than his 1st album? Off 1st listen it may be his worst

I'm so tired of us giving these lyrical dudes a pass for 6 word verses & wack azz beats.

Kdot got humbled wit TPAB and i hope the same is for Cole

:martin:

Stop smoking that boo boo.

nikkaz just say anything to be heard.

KDOT did not get "Humbled" by the response of that LP. Really doe.

I think it's a mixtape.

It's sad that She's Mine Part 1 and Dejavu are about his other women instead of his wife. & it's funny and a little annoying how you all think it's about his wife when it's clearly not.

Folding clothes was really cute and surely about his wife. She's mine part 2 was about his daughter and very cute.

My faves were change and neighbors.

Pretty sure this was a mixtape and not an album.

This isn't good enough to be an ablum, but it's fine for a mixtape. It also follows his mixtape trend of having a Z instead of S. Truely yourz, for your eyez only.
Pretty sure it's an album.
