So as one of the people who gave one of the first opinions on this album, I just heard it clearly on bornsinner.com and hearing it like that sonically makes the album better. The first run through I probably paid more attention to his lyrics. Lyrically, he's still a notch down from where he was circa FNL. However, this is genuinely a good album and cohesive. Like I said last time around, if you're a Cole fan, you have nothing to complain about. But I don't know if it'll make you a believer if you don't like him.

It's one of those albums without a "great" song (maybe the first one or Let Nas Down which you all seem to hate just based on what it represents) but it doesn't have a "bad" moment either. It's just a good album and all of the songs fit that description too. Definitely an improvement over the first one, but a song like Breakdown off his first album is better than just about every song on this album. It's also definitely "mood music." I feel like it lacks "pick and play tracks no matter the occasion" besides perhaps the two singles.

Good effort though Cole. I think his sales will surprise people. Very cohesive. On another note, it looks like Cole and Kendrick are quietly asserting God into mainstream hip hop beyond the superficial means for the first time since Jesus Walks.

I think I like Sideline Story more after a couple of listens :merchant:

Nothing on this album really grabs my attention other than Villuminati, Runaway, Forbidden Fruit, Let Nas Down, and Born Sinner. Rich nikkaz straight up sounds like a Timbo beat. His production is very good but deceptively: FNL and the Warm Up are his peaks as a producer IMO. Sideline was uplifting at points while this project seems fairly muted despite the strong production. His rapping has gotten a lot better but now that he's experienced fame it kinda feels like he's running in circles with that theme. This is coming from someone who really liked his debut (and honestly doesn't see the hate it gets from this site despite the fact 90% of the people were going crazy over it on SOHH).

6 or 7/10 seems right, for now.

This is definitely mood music.

Villuminati is the HARDEST track on here though.

He definitely doesn't have any singles on here.

She Knows could be a single. I hated it at first, but the sample is catchy as hell

Yeah, I got the better version that's out and it sounds much better. The only track that's poor is that Ain't That Some shyt (Interlude).

It flows well.

Trouble is :lawd:
