Done first listen...I really like this.
Consistently good songs throughout but a shortage of great ones. I don't see the whole "accessible" rhetoric being thrown in here

nikka said verbal slights using "fakkit", "retard", said fukk jigga (twice) and Biggie and said "I'm bouta go and join the illuminati.... fukk everybody" all on the same track....the fukking first one
It's the complete opposite. This album is very personal. The only marketable songs are the two singles so far, both ironically are songs for da bytches.
Coolest thing about Villmatic is how it sets the tone for the album. our Cole is doing one big heel turn. people thought he was a safe and accessible artist and now... "allow me to reintroduce myself" nikka did say he was studying Machiavelli too

it stays consistent with his theme of "can't lose my SOULLL" theme of this tape. Cole's emblem and a running theme of his music is duality and trying to find/keep his balance. sinning yet trying to remain a good person. this album has him aligning more to the dark side. it's an interesting to me at least.
The big breakthrough is that his beats are finally catching up to his talent. Makes the album consistently good, nothing I really hated. Because his album so personal it aint too diverse content wise. He's going thru the "jaded with fame" phase of his career which we just followed Drake out of. I think this is gonna be a running theme of lot's of dudes sophomore LPs. Cole does well on it because he raps about a few of his experience.
Overall I'd letter grade it A- or so. I dunno if this album will age well. But worth a listen. Might even buy for the bonus tracks.
