I did not like J. Cole's first album much at all. In fact, the only song i really found replay value in was "Sideline Story".
But this one right here is damn good, and hopefully it's only the beginning for him. I can really listen to this joint from front to back with the exception of "Ain't That Some shyt"...wish he would've left that off. I don't love "Trouble" either, but the rest of it i can listen to without hesitation.
This kid is special. His ability to put verses together fluidly, telling the whole story & killing it with his wordplay is something that doesn't happen with many dudes.
You can hear the influences on this (Nas, OutKast, Kanye, Tribe), and not just with the obvious tracks. Even the singles type of songs are really good. If that song with TLC is a single, i really hope it does well.
Only thing is i really wish he would upgrade those damn drums. The concepts of the beats are great, but if those drums would've been stepped up, it could've been that much better.
