Yeah cause I was trying to and under that criteria, I couldn't either.
The easiest choice would be Lupe Fiasco but he came out before 2008
I do believe Drake, Cole, Kendrick are great rappers but when I think of your criteria and compare them to other greats I grew up idolizing (Scarface, Ghostface, 3 Stacks, Jay, Nas) they don't stack up at all.

Yeah. Hip Hop just changed man. shyt just got different. It's always changing but the bar for what's consider talent and great really changed.
I liked Lupe when he 1st put Food & Liquor out but I didn't like The Cool and I stopped checking for his music after that.
Yeah, when you compare those guys to like a Nas or Face it's like not even a comparison at all. Like in no capacity.

Crazy thing is, hip hop is the most popular and mainstream music. IT IS modern music and has never been at this level of popularity.
I guess that's why guys like Drake, Kenny, Cole get catapulted to this level because they can rap better than most of their peers in this day and age.

It is the most popular music and the most mainstream it's ever been BUT I think the minute the more mainstream and popular Hip Hop became and becomes, it lost and continues to loses the authenticity and pureness it once had.
