Then he followed that track up with a joint that had the Backstreet Boys singing the hook

:russ:

There is NOTHING on this Cole album that sounds as garbage as Drogas Light .... please stop it my boy

Lupe put some pop bullshyt at the end of that album, the ones you're linking.

DROGAS Light had 14 songs, and songs 10 through 13 were trash records, but the other 10 songs were fine.

KOD has 12 tracks, with 1 being an interlude and multiple songs you can skip due to the production being trash or the hook being weak.

The difference will be, Cole's fanbase will ignore the horrible singing, they'll ignore how bad the voice distortion sounds on here, they'll ignore the weak production on some of these songs, because they just fukk with J. Cole. nikkas really in here saying this is Cole's best album

:laff:

What more needs to be said honestly?

i can see an argument that big sean on his level. he can spit, but i still prefer cole. however those claiming drake, who has thoroughly been exposed as a dude with ghost writers (in fact i think sean may have written for him early on), are full of shyt and they know it.
Nah. I don’t hate Big Sean but he’s got too many wack bars. Not consistent enough.

ye that's fair. he definitely doesn't have a catalog comparable to cole, but when he's on he's on. drake on the other hand :heh: whoever wrote his bars might be on and even then i heard the reference tracks... they ain't really on either. :ld:

I don't see this album as a parody or a diss against [insert new rapper]. Above all it's an album about addiction and vices of our time. Photograph, ATM, Kevin's Heart etc aren't about drugs or rappers - they're about the ills of social media, greed, adultery, etc. Even Brackets...you could argue it's about Cole's own greed in regards to not wanting to pay taxes.

Even 1985, the "diss song," sounds more like cautionary advice than Cole talking shyt about anyone in specific.

The concept is interesting, albeit very familiar. I've been listening to this and can't shake the idea that this sonically sounds almost like a Tribe record. Midnight Marauders.

With all that being said...my problem is that...it's not really compelling to me outside of a few tracks. Questionable hooks, very mixed production, and the way he attacks many of these issues just feels too on the nose. Especially Photograph. Just sounds out of touch to me, and preachy. The best tracks are the most personal, where it sounds like he's empathizing instead of casting down judgement. Once An Addict is great, very emotional. And then on the next track, Friends, he sounds like he's not only judging friends struggling with addiction, his solution is laughable: meditate, don't medicate. Are you serious?
:gucci:

Window Pain is a great song. Kevin's Heart is a great song (potential single too). Once An Addict is great. 1985 is dope. Everything else kinda fluctuates to bad to ehhh or ok to me.
