what makes j. cole stans annoying is their belief that somehow, their guy is the only person who talks about "important stuff," while also refusing to scrutinize just how he talks about these things. so please, just listen to his stuff and leave me alone til i send for you. https://t.co/xxLFTmGN4s

snoozefest , seems like he peaked on "forrest hills drive" . ATM has a trash hook and 1985 sounds like something you would find on SoundCloud.
Glad the only j cole concert i went was for "Forrest hills drive" , now that concert was fire . :wow::wow:

J Cole is one of the modern day mainstream artist to bring back sample and loop based traditional Hip Hop back to the mainstream.

Now Jay and Drake have followed suit. Jay and Drake have both went sample based Hip Hop with their singles "Nice for What" and "Moonlight" both using Lauren Hill vocal samples.

Yeah, I pay taxes, so much taxes, shyt don't make sense
Where do my dollars go? You see lately, I ain't been convinced
I guess they say my dollars supposed to build roads and schools
But my nikkas barely graduate, they ain't got the tools
Maybe 'cause the tax dollars that I make sure I send
Get spent hirin' some teachers that don't look like them
And the curriculum be tricking them, them dollars I spend
Got us learning about the heroes with the whitest of skin
One thing about the men that's controlling the pen
That write history, they always seem to white-out they sins
Maybe we'll never see a black man in the White House again
I'll write a check to the IRS, my pockets get slim
Damn, do I even have a say 'bout where it's goin'?
Some older nikka told me to start votin'
I said "Democracy is too fukkin' slow"
If I'm givin' y'all this hard-earned bread, I wanna know
Better yet, let me decide, bytch, it's 2018
Let me pick the things I'm funding from an app on my screen
Better that than letting wack congressman I've never seen
Dictate where my money go, straight into the palms of some Money-hungry company that make guns that circulate the country And then wind up in my hood, making bloody clothes
Stray bullet hit a young boy with a snotty nose
From the concrete, he was prolly rose
Now his body froze and nobody knows what to tell his mother
He did good at the white man schools unlike his brother
Who was lost in the streets all day, not using rubbers
So right now, he got two on the way
Still sleep on covers in his mama house
She can't take this shyt no more, she want him out
On the morning of the funeral, just as she's walking out
Wiping tears away, grabbing her keys and sunglasses
She remember that she gotta file her taxes, damn

:wow:that last verse on Brackets :whew:

Rapping wise, this is Cole's best album.....even if he's not venturing outta his comfort zone that far, he's mastered his formula. Usually, there will be a few Cole lyrics that is embarrassingly bad on his albums but I didn't notice any after listening closely. Only songs I'm not feeling was Motiv8 & Kevin's Heart.

My main gripe are the beats . Since the album is about addiction and the ills of the current generation, I just expect the sound to be darker, aggressive, etc. They're not wack or terrible...I just would like to hear Cole on something different than the usual chill laid back vibe. The great thing is that Cole was aggressive on the rapping end....if he went with a different sound, we could've had a special album.

Cole will rather go down in a sunken ship with his sound instead of switching it up if it meant saving his life lol.

The album still good though...
