J Cole never been signed to def jam in his life. You dudes literally say anything lol

And his debut had no push, everyone was clowning him, he couldn’t get a jay feature ect

He tripled expectations and recouped his first week lol.

Y’all wasnt around then bro lol. Cole never had the push like say a Kendrick in his entire career
This is a lie lmao. Dude was featured on the Blueprint 3 and Jay was on his debut. Jay even put him on a song with Beyonce. He couldn’t get a release date because he couldn’t produce a big single and back then that was necessary. His album came out when Work Out became a top 10 hit. Cole got a bigger push than any of his contemporaries than Kendrick, Drake and maybe young Cudi.

jay throwing him on a star is born is the definition of a push bozo

Yes he was on bp3. He was on a remix to a song with Beyoncé after his album had already released and blew ip

He couldn’t get a release cause the label didn’t understand his base and wanted him to make a pop song. They didn’t understand he didn’t need that and didn’t believe he would sell

Wale got much bigger pushes, big Sean hot much bigger pushes. We can go down a list, Cole literally came up off the mixtape grind.

Cole open the door for Kendrick, should label it was a new era and you didn’t need a single to.

You wasn’t around then goofy, if you think Cole got some crazy ass push

I love the coli man these be the real discussions tho hopefully we never have overly complex convos like nas vs k dot that shyt would be really difficult either way

But I got cole over fab

Cole is about tied with cam

And cole is under jada by a decent amount (jada might be in my top 10 I gotta really think about tho)

Like I say a undisputed classic is what really starts putting u in those top 10 convos and like jada if you don’t have a classic album but your A+++ in everything for decades I mean everything else features battles mixtapes songs (the best versus performance that will ever be done) you can kinda compete with someone with 1 classic or maybe even someone with classics but the other rapper might’ve fell the fukk off after 5 years I have no idea where to put Eminem I do have the eminem show as a classic mmlp Is really good idk if it’s classic (some of it doesn’t age great I’ll have to hear it again maybe I’m tripping) but after 04 his carrer hits such a nose dive maybe he’s top 15 idk he’s a hard one to place same with snoop (doggystyle) classic there are ppl with classics that the rest of there career really fukks up there ranking and snoop is more hit and miss than fell off

You wasn’t around then either, the clowning came from jay declining multiple songs to get on. Yea he got a jay verse, shyt was absolutely trash tho, the talk was jay ain’t fukk with him or believe in him. And Cole has spoken on that years later on songs, jay throwing him in a room with star gate to try and get them to help him with a hit ect

Jay wasn’t ushering him around like ye was doing with big Sean and others was doing wit they artist

Cole sustain cause of his mixtape grind, the warm up, Friday night lights is what blew Cole up.

Sit down somewhere, I’m probably older or just as old as you. Grew up on kids, cam, Cole has a greater body of work then both of them. And will be remembered as greater then both. Neither of them was a top nothing in they era.

Fab is way out his weight class

good points I def think after gkmc they stop hounding rappers for singles as a result albums sound way better and way more natural and born sinner is way better than sideline story

Even chance the rapper acid rap sounded really fire and on the breakfast club they ask him what’s the single he’s like just listen to the album (mixtape)

I think the no single album era is a good title for that time period good call

jay z is only doing so much for his artist until they start winning if cole wasn’t as good and kept grinding he could’ve ended up like Vic Mensa (yeah ppl forget jay signed that kid)
I think that drake feature cole had helped a lot (hit it in the morning) that and Friday night lights did way more for cole than jay ever did (at that point in time)

:dead: @ you wasnt around like j cole was some hidden treasure. the jay-z and roc nation cosign is what blew j cole up. jay-z putting j cole on a song called A STAR IS BORN on one of his best selling albums ever is what blew j cole up. the warm up made ZERO noise when it was released (i heard it back then though just off the strength of the roc nation cosign). you think j cole gets a kanye west look and thrown on a good friday track without that jay-z cosign? you think j cole gets on a beyonce song without that jay-z cosign?

and stop bringing up this nikkas body of work like hes kendrick or drake. his albums are the definition of dirt compared to the real kings of his generation. kendrick & drake lapped that man 3 times over with the album quality (GKMC, TPAB, Damn, Section 80, Take Care, Nothing Was The Same, If Youre Reading This).

Cole World Sideline Story - 3/10
Born Sinner - 7.5/10
Forest Hills Drive - 8.5/10
4YEO - 5/10
KOD - 6/10
The Offseason - 8/10

cam was a part of 3 albums better than everything on that list :mjlol:

I'm not even the biggest Cole fan, but Jada is just too good and has too many moments even though he lacks that classic. That means something to me(an argument brought up in the Kendrick/Jadakiss topic that trended). Fab and Cam don't have as many.

Hip Hop is the only genre where success is negated in rankings which is mind boggling to me. I’m not some mainstream guy, but I think success should count for something in rankings. Cole has six straight platinum albums, and generational songs. Cole for the last 8 years doesn’t make Hit records, he makes records hits if you know what I mean. No Role Models has over 1 billion streams just on Spotify, that’s not even a “hit” sounding record. Hip Hop is the only genre where you’re lowkey penalized for being successful
