Houston, by way of Pittsburgh.

And this right here is my whole gripe with the situation.

As someone who's been listening to Cole since '09, he has NEVER painted himself as this scholarly dude like a Lupe or Kendrick. He's always been a flawed individual who can express his faults and emotions very articulately while still making vulnerable and relatable music. All that college talk and talking about growing up in Fayetteville is what everybody loved about him. He's just an honest dude who always seemed like he's learning as he goes along. All of us are, really. Doesn't mean he can't express himself, especially with the platform he has.

This man protested in Ferguson, dropped what accounts to TWO full length “Black Lives Matter” themed albums, dropped a full “BLM” themed documentary and Noname wanted to call out him and Kendrick??

That might be amongst the DUMBEST shyt i’ve ever heard. She deserved to be called out for that shyt and Cole didn’t even diss her. Its clear that people either don’t listen to lyrics or are just looking for “scandal” because his response was about as intellectual a “diss” i’ve ever fukking heard
son took more shots at the man in the mirror than anyone else ha*

Are we now pretending his fans didn't use to talk about how smart you had to be to understand his lyrics?

That tweet is 100% on point even with Cole mainly being down to earth. His fans absolutely placed him on a higher pedestal than he was placing himself and maybe it just now hit.

Listened ‘Snow on tha Bluff” a few times and I’m not finding it too controversial.

It’s a song about “treat[ing] people like children.” alas, understanding prospectives before criticizing and/or attempting to change them an ignorant-better.
