NaS is the goat, but no way would i record a song as an ode to him... and who cares if NaS don't like workout... song is dope, but dope or wack, no artist should be in the studio worrying about if NaS likes their music or not unless NaS is signing their checks...

and this is why todays music is as wack as it is.
do you think for one minute Nas wasn't making hiphop in his prime not trying to impress the old heads that killed the mic before him? of course he was.

see that new kid mentality of "i dont care what yall old heads think" is the same reason this gens music SUCKS in general(it is getting better. finally).

you have to pay homage to the past, in addition to trying to make your mark but make darn sure the dudes you grew up on would call you dope. thats how you know for a fact you're ready to be at that level. not cause your label paid for you to look like it. not cause a few fans are hyping you up and you're trending today on twitter. but because your music is that good.

Old head rappers are fans just like me and you. you should try to impress them.

its BIg Brotha part 2. even the beat has a similar cadence. and that song was hot to for what it was.

Mc Brew said he would never make an ode to Nas yet he's spent about 10 years of his adult life making ode's to Nas via internet message boards, namely SOHH

:childplease:

think of all the posts you've accumulated over the years that are related to that man. You could make over 12 albums off that shyt

I think the point that J Cole was trying to make was that he admired Nas so when Nas heard the song and said it wasn't up to par, its like having one of your idols tell you that you could do better.

We all look up to people no matter who we are. In this case, the best comparison would be Kobe and MJ. What if MJ didn't give props to Mamba? It would only inspire him to do greater.

I think thats the point of the song.

Damn nicca for real? U really smart. I was sat here thinking "let nas down" was about him removing Nas' pants.

again, we're not talking about NaS disliking j. cole's whole career, just one song... name me an artist that has never made a wack song ever....

Nas to Jordan, fine, cool... but did you just use J. Cole as the Kobe equivalent in that comparison? :skip:

Not in a direct sense. I was using the situation of an idol and someone who looks up to the idol. I'm not comparing Jermaine to Kobe.
