I haven't listened to the album once after the week it leaked...but I thought it was generally well received and raved about...the consensus is that it was a coaster now? Outside of opinions, it can't be denied that it was a great commercial success at least...I think he'll be fine once he starts putting new material out there...or working and gearing up for his next cycle, he's just not as active as most of his contemporaries

As far a mainstream effort I don't know how any Cole fan can be dissappointed with "Sideline Story"

He had introspective songs
Great singles
It flowed well as album. Didn't make any poppy as songs that were screaming "I need a hit"

What more do you want from a mainstream debut?

His album was a good debut like most new rappers debuts in fact it was better than most, he's getting 100% creative control on the next album now that he's proved that he sells more records than most artists. He's on a big tour right now, selling out shows and sh*t like that. Performing all over the world. He can't be all over the place dropping songs, features etc. He's touring and recording.

And he's still dropping occasional heat

I don't understand the hate for the album. As a fan I wish some of the songs could have been swapped out with some of the mixtape tracks, but for a major release the album was pretty good.
With the trash the labels are making people put on their album I think Cole did a good job keepin true to himself and his sound.

nikka needs some much needed help on the production tip. That's what holding him back. shyt is nyquil status right now. at people saying he ain't try to aim for some hit records on that album.
