J Dilla's brother Illa J doesn't think Kanye would be as big as he is now if Dilla hadn't passed

No way, I just don't think Dilla would evolve his style to stay with the times or push new sounds to stay relevant in mainstream. He was the GOAT in his pocket but that pocket was getting further and further away from the mainstream every year at that time.

I just watched a vid where it said Dilla got his bass samples from record player feedback. That dude was a fukkin genius.

But Ye was already top tier by the time Dilla passed and his style had already flipped from just sample based to orchestral on LR.

While that is an absurd and wildly inaccurate statement, I do think Dilla was >>>> Ye as strictly a beat maker
Does he not understand what level Kanye was on in 2006 when Dilla passed??? College Dropout and Late Registration were already out lmao.
And Ye next album is influenced by Dilla and songs like one won't do. He said that back them.

Dilla revolutionized the approach to drums.
Can't sneeze without hearing a drummer these days attempting what Dilla did on the MPC.
Ye is a different kind of producer, his beats are conceptual. Dilla's beats are innovative yet at home in a style all his own.

Ye would have been big because Ye was first and foremost a pop artist.
Dilla didn't come off like somebody chasing the mainstream. Ye is the bigger artist, Dilla is the more influential.

Dilla is leaps and bounds better as a producer than Ye. But imo Dilla didn't want the fame like that. He turned down producing Justin Timberlake album to go make beats with his homies, he also turned down working with Jay-Z (have to look up the Dilla Time book again) I don't think JD cared for the fame, he wanted to make music he enjoyed, Ye wanted the fame and already had it when Dilla was alive. If I'm not mistaken, Dilla was in the Slum Village "tainted" video in the background and Ye was already that dude
Do people actually believe this? Kanye is probably the most creative/diverse producers in rap history. In what way is Dilla leaps and boundaries better?
