First off, where the fukk has the time gone. I remember first hearing Donuts out behind a bar in Raleigh NC and Khrysis had his car open and was playing it for everyone in the parking lot. This beat still always makes me sad. I don't know if it was actually the last beat he made, I doubt it, but it certainly feels like he was so aware he was leaving soon, and that he put all of that into the track.

I think the video sort of takes away from the song but I couldn't find it on youtube without the video

HELL NAH!
:wtf::mindblown:
that track is FLAMES!

Is it that big a deal. I don't like two songs out of 31.

Tell me which songs you don't think are perfect so I can make a face at you, or is the album perfect in your opinion?

Still remember MindBlown making the Donuts thread back on SOHH. I remember the album basically leaking a month or so in advance, but I still wanted to support Dilla because we knew he was sick (that pic of him in a wheelchair onstage).

Donuts sounded a lot like Beat Tape #3 but was more polished and he really owned that new sampling style he was messing with at the time. Hype for Fishscale was very high when we learned Dilla was working on it. I remember being hyped as hell to hear what Ghost was gonna do with "One For Ghost"

Classic, even before his passing a week later. People act like we only started messing with Dilla after he died. WRONG

I remember when it leaked also and waited for the album to drop to buy it and was amazed at how clean yet gritty it sounded. It was funny b/c at the time him and Madlib were dropping beat tapes like crazy or at least they were leaking somehow (I still have that Madlib 82 Beat instrumental tape) and Madlib was making beats those gritty ass beats with samples galore. When Donuts dropped everybody was floored even Madlib knowing this man made this album from his deathbed and it sounded so damn good. The Last Donut of The Night is when it really hit me that this man knew he didnt have long and put his soul into that project. People always try to bash Dilla or say people simply hopped on the bandwagon after he passed and it might be true in some cases but this man has recreated his style and mastered just about everyone so many times over the years it's not even funny. He did it effortlessly and even while dying made one of the best instrumental album of all time IMO.
