Two key differences. Ason never shot as bad as Rubio, even at his worst and he never struggled around the basket which Rubio does. In fact his ability to finish at the rim is the biggest knock against him going forward.

Look at the early career 3 point shooting, Kidd got better as his career went along, and he was never great at finishing at the rim
