Being in NY at this moment I can tell you straight up that the SMM folks I fukk with don't view out of towners as official unless they are stamped in the town. Period. You may not agree with it but it is what it is.
This the same issue LA Blood and Crip sets have with out of towners repping their shyt, confusing who's who and what means what. I don't give a fukk about jail hierarchy, and none of the people i know care about that shyt, unless they are still in jail. NY is different fam. Jail rank doesn't hold as much weight here as it does in LA or Atlanta. I know as I've lived in all 3 places so I'm not guessing. No NY nikka is answering to no out of towner on some homegrown set shyt. Most people out of town still associate SMM with being blood, where as nikkas in Soundview are SMM independently first and foremost, while blood ties come second.
The reason it's more apes and hats is because they don't need to go to a place to get stamped. Easier to join apes and hats because nikkas just care about numbers so its not a lot of vetting. In NY SMM nikkas gotta come get stamped, not just everybody is allowed in the car and nikkas dont tolerate nikkas flipping like other sets do. I don't know how SMM sets in the A are carrying it so I won't speculate.
