Y'all are judging in hindsight.

There's a reason Pharrell and Chad could charge $150K for a beat. Singles were huge at the time bc pre-Itunes, it was hard to get singles and so ppl had to buy the WHOLE album, which led to massive sales.

The industry coasted for years off this model. Decades.

Artists could drop 2 great songs and sell 3 million albums. nikkas really weren't even putting forth much effort outside of the singles.

That's why SOME artists are more respected bc they made albums with several great songs.

you sure about that?

Nelly got 2 diamond albums

single cds were still a thing, so if they only fukked with the single, people bought that
Nah, we used to have to buy the whole album in order to find out if we only liked the single lol. People did buy singles too though, of course.

Busta has always been more of a showman than an mc. I never really fukked with mainstream rap, but I always thought country grammar was a dope album.

I agree on Busta

Ja, Fab and Nelly got albums I fukked with (3:36, Country Gramar, Ghetto Fabolous) but I can see why most people looked at them as singles artists

Luda got bsides, especially off the first two albums. There were songs being played on the radio that weren't singles. He dont get alotta credit because he's animated but he had a solid album run. Word of Mouf is a classic imo.
