He was called the best high school player since LeBron by SI. They’re not gonna leverage that praise on a guy who they think is a mediocre prospect.

You clearly haven’t watched not one Bulls games this year. JP is even slower than he was before. I’m not knocking him for that because of all the lower extremity surgeries he’s had. But there is nothing explosive about his game. He’s just strong as hell and a power finisher once he gets up. He also has a high bb IQ, so he doesn’t really need to beat his man off the dribble to be effective.

I still see good open court speed for his size, laterally he's never been great, I still see him being shifty and using herky jerky hesitations and in and outs to get by defenders, still see the hop steps, and he has 24 dunks in 19 games.
I think he'll look better once the Bulls roster gets healthy. Y'all shytting on a 23 year old who had 2 ACL tears.

Good thing is Chicago fans don't have to worry about him after this year...the 2nd year of his contract is a team option, they can cut him at no cost at the end of this season.
And if he makes some kind of miraculous turnaround...Bulls have him for well under market in that 2nd year.

He's a role player at this stage of his career (best used as a 6th man who can provide instant offense), the expectations around his play should be judged accordingly, especially since he's on a team with lack of talent and structure; forcing him to play a significant role given the circumstances was only going to exaggerate his flaws. Real Plus-minus is a nonsense stat, one that should be taken with a grain of salt, not one that's used to make any foundation of an argument - it's not even a stat that tells you about how a player performed in the past, it's a stat that projects/predicts the future (how much impact x-player is going to have going forward), based on box score #s, height, weight, age, team, lineups etc.
Despite the creator(s), nobody even knows everything that goes into the formula - that should raise flags for anyone who thinks it has any value.
It's just an estimation based on how that player is going to perform for the remainder of the season, for instance, if Jabari was on a good team, and played EXACTLY the same (or even played WORSE) his RPM would be far greater because he'd have a better projection for the rest of the season.
