I'm gonna assume, it's because it's a BIG valuable movie franchise for Warner Bros. If you'll notice certain BIG valuable movie franchises like "Star Wars" or "Harry Potter" aren't available on Netflix. The same goes with certain popular TV shows that get big money in syndication (i.e. "The Big Bang Theory" or "Modern Family").
Is it WB or Universal that wants to start it's own streaming service?

Jack the Giant Slayer was decent. The two Hobbit movies + the LOTR trilogy all shyt on it though. The movie was nothing special at all, just an ok popcorn movie.

Yall boys trippin. I like JTGS but it is in no way shape or form touching The Hobbit movies especially The Desolation of Smaug. The way they CGI'd Smaug alone and his personality made you believe he was an actual real dragon. Those giants though impressive just came off ehh IMO.
