Jackson, MS water system is failing, city will be with no or little drinking water indefinitely

Just like Flint, MI they pretty much cut off the water in black cities this is why we need our own infrastructure.

Except the people in flint were criminalized. They knowingly switched over to contaminated pipes and the state didn’t even know about it hence why many were put in prison.

This is not the same situation. Mississippi as a whole(governor and legislature) is with holding funds from Jackson to fix the issue.

All old cities have homes with lead solder in the pipes.

When Flint switched their raw water source, the new source was much more corrosive. All they had to do was add a corrosion inhibitor to the cost of 140$ per day for the plant. But they failed to do that.

In Jackson the type of plant requires a lot more maintenance on the UV system and the membrane filters as compare with other types of plants. The city just failed to provide the cost for maintenance. Maybe they really have no money and they are bankrupt I don't know. Thats just my two cents I work in the water distribution field.

Voting for progressives continues to be the path of least resistance and most logical to fixing the issues

Once again in order to fix the voting situation and even the playing field in the south it’s going to require federal intervention as it always has when white racists oppress us in these shytholes across US history. My point is you can change red states blue with enough Black folks coming back and participating.

Of course it would be a hard life but it is the ONLY forward for Black folks in this country.

Great points by both you. I think you both are really saying the same thing. Progressives are the way to vote and in order to get red states especially down south more progressive (for blacks people) is for more blacks to relocate to a particular area instead of being so spread out.

As a former property manager I’m just gonna say that there will be endless fighting about parking. And parking passes. And neighbors having parties and taking up all the spaces.

That’s a huge gift to developers and slumlords and it’s also a little ageist and classist.

Well I would NEVER EVER tell anyone to go live in Mississippi, I had the displeasure of staying there for a month when my house got flooded during the hurricane last year and damn that place is backwards. And that’s me being respectful to anyone from there

There are certain areas in Mississippi that are decent to live in. You just weren’t at the right spot.

Northern Mississippi near the Tennessee line is a completely different type of living compared to the southern areas of the state.

I'm not sure the bolded alone would be enough to make a difference in these states. A lot of these same states have spent the past 10 years making voting itself more and more difficult, particularly for exactly the demographics that would be most likely to vote blue. And now you've got state level parties like the Texas GOP openly stating they want to throw the Voting Rights Act in the bushes.

But on top of that, a lot of these red state governments in the south are so heavily gerrymandered in the GOP's favor, muting the political influence of their black populations. It's going to take more than just black people moving en masse back to the south to make these states purple, let alone blue.

I lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast; a small coastal city just outside of Biloxi. I enjoyed my time there, and would definitely go back. Don’t recall these types of issues when I was there. Much love to the brothers and sisters living in Jackson.

To my knowledge there hasn’t been a case like that in the south, but I can give you a link of plenty of southern officials who have been charged and arrested for various things

Mississippi is a state where if you grow up there you get the hell out soon as you can, if you have to go there for any reason you get in get out soon as you can.
