I think you may be overestimating the extent to which this message is being promoted. The most favoured and high status black men in America are usually actors, musicians and athletes. Lebron, Jay-Z, and Denzel are far more notable than Don Lemon, Deray Mckesson or "Big Frida" (whoever that is) are, and the former all made their names through the lens of hypermasculinity. The black man hasn't been neutered, he's been oversexualized, made into a fetishistic beast of burden. Because that's where this all comes from; black people being considered livestock. White supremacists have had no problem controlling and dominating black men in a hypermasculine posture. That's how they justified taking out Mike Brown and countless other young black men. The black community has internalized this message to a degree exceeding even the white community, and has been self-policing the constraints put around us by white supremacy. The solution is not a further retreat into the constraint, but recognizing it as a ruse and transcending the constraint through full self-expression.
