Mariotas getting better i hate the playcalling they need to let him slang it

Not really: Mariota is terrible against good defenses and rips apart poor defenses. The Jags defense is more tired than poor. Bortles cannot stay on the field and Mariota is taking advantage of an exhausted defense. When Mariota plays against good defenses, he hardly completes half his passes.

I dunno - his game before this was Miami, which doesn't really have a "bad" passing defense, and he pulled 90+ QBR in that one too.

Even that first game against Minnesota, which has one of the best defenses in the NFL, wasn't so much a bad game as it was just two really bad plays. Take out the pick and the fumble, and he's completed a lot of passes at a 60% rate for a lot of yards and a couple of TDs in that game.

Mariota basically had a 3-game sophomore slump, and now looks like he might be getting more comfortable. I think the real test comes when he faces teams for the 2nd time this season.

That record definitely is a problem. :scust:
You should be able to get 3 wins a year from that division

Miami's offense only scored 3 points and couldn't stay on the field, which negated the strength of their defense by tiring out out. Against Minnesota Mariota was only average. He threw for 60% but his YPA was only 6.6, which implies he wasn't throwing deep well. He also only got many yards because he threw 41 times. Any QB who throws 41 times is going to amass 200+ yards.

Mariota's numbers against decent to good passing defenses this year--Minnesota, Oakland, Houston and Indianapolis--are underwhelming.

Neither Minny nor Indy were bad performances. Those two games combined were 47-79 for nearly 500 yards, 4 tds, and only 1 pick. Those aren't amazing numbers, but they're fine for a young qb without many weapons being forced to throw a ton against a good D. Mariota's biggest asset has always been his decision making, which is why against those good defences he threw a lot of completions, but had to keep it short often to avoid critical errors. He just screwed up late in Minny when he started pressing. Still, even with those two critical turnovers, his qbr for the two games was nearly 60, up at league average.

The other two games were admittedly bad. But that's not a huge sample. Like I said, he's looked far more comfortable these last 2-3 games, and I think the second half of the season will be the true test.
