Toronto native Jahkoy first popped up on our radar as a part of the 1234 Collective’seclectic stream of June releases. His music encompasses a well-groomed understanding of modern R&B sonics, from deep house to the Soulection aesthetic to the four-on-the-floor chug aimed at radio crossover.
Premiered earlier today by Zane Lowe, the No I.D. protégé’s newest song “Odd Future” showcases a more nuanced take both musically and lyrically, blending Jahkoy’s understanding of modern R&B soundscapes with a focus on his psychology rather than on strictly examining the dynamic of a relationship (a subtle tweak on typically pop-leaning R&B writing).
