Props to the woman in the op :salute:

She nailed the issue with movies like this, and why they don't even always resonate with women in real life

They want to show the experiences of BW and the struggles they deal with at the hands of BM... but they minimize the effects of racism at the same time...

It's the same thing that Harriet Tubman movie did... no coincidence that both movies didn't do much at box office

yeah she has alot of great insight about these swirl/divestor and feminism topics. She provides alot of good data and context to her points, not just emotional rambling

Above the fray.
"Notice the oppressor in the film is always the Black man, never the system"
1 minute later
"So, Sofia fights against racism and the system and ends up in jail."

Wait, what?

She sounds like Rick James on the Chappelle Show
"I wouldn't destroy Eddie Murphy sofa, what kind of person do you think I am" "Yeah, so I destroyed Eddie Murphy's sofa"

I have an issue with the original Color Purple, but this sounds like standard YTer pandering.

In the first film, Oprah's character comes up directly against a white character disrespecting/violating her and reacts the same way she did when every other character disrespected her.
The penalty for fighting back in that instance is severe, and highlights the racial dynamic in the time/place of the film.
Unless they shot the scene differently this time, YTer is conveniently forgetting scenes of a film she just watched.
