PSU is kinda like TAMU in that they have Blue Blood expectations....but aren't exactly a Blue Blood.

Two natties and Miami (really Testaverde) handed them #2 in 1986. There's an argument for the 1994 squad, but this is who they've always been. Very good, sometimes great but not a team that you expect to win like Notre Dame before 1980, 80s Miami, 90s Nebraska, Saban's Bama teams etc.

They had to let him go but they still got work to do....especially now that Indiana is getting to "Big Dawg" status.

You really think beating Boise state was impressive?

He won a b1g ten chip a decade ago.

You're moving goal posts. You said "big game". Now you're saying the team that they played wasn't good

I promise you had they lost that game, you would have said "See? He can't win a big game"

so a coach who had 3 straight double digit win seasons and went to the playoffs last year cant have a down season?

bo pelini was 67-27 when nebraska fired him, no coach since has a record better than .500
This is a great point.

They better hit a HOME RUN hire

How did he never win a big game if he's won conference titles and a playoff game?
Titles? He won one title, a fluke one where he got blown out by Michigan by 39 points and beat Ohio State on a block field goal touchdown. There’s a reason Ohio State was selected to the playoffs and Penn State wasn’t despite them winning the conference because nobody believed they were the class of the Big Ten. The real championship was played in Columbus that year.

4-17 vs Michigan and Ohio State. And a host of other things. That’s why he was fired. Real greaseball shyt.

Also he made the expanded playoffs.

Penn State ain’t Nebraska. Penn State is in fertile recruiting territory with access to both the Midwest and East Coast. Double the endowment and far larger alumni base and regularly recruits in the top 15.

I totally understand why they feel they can be better than a resume builder for the top big ten teams. His offensive lines were always awful. He has ruined so many quarterbacks that were NFL level.
