This is a further indictment of the decline of sports reporting and how sports writers make a name for themselves nowadays. Journalism is now just as much about being part of the story as it is covering the story (you know, the thing you get paid to do as a journalist).

Given that the profession is oversaturated by approximately 450%, the only way someone can stand out from the pack is to have some sort of incredibly contrarian opinion. Just pop out some bullshyt theory/rumor on Twitter, vote Harden for all-NBA defense, etc. and all of a sudden you're getting pub too!
