It doesn't matter how many points he scores if he is letting Lillard, Matthews, or Batum drive right by him on defense.

Agreed, defense is clearly the downside to Harden's offensive talents. But actually, if you score a few more points than you allow then you've contributed to a win. And Harden did outscore Lillard. So yeah Harden gave up a lot of points but did he give up more than 37? Doubt it. Plus, he had just the 1 turnover versus 2 steals. Add to that the assists and rebounds and it's pretty clear that overall Harden still contributed in a positive way despite the fact he is terrible defensively. All the more room for improvement. If Harden ever does learn to play some half-decent defense he will be a force of nature. 'Cause offensively, as bad as he's been, it's only three games really so far. He will pick it up. Harden was the clutchest player during the regular season of all playoff players. He's not a choker, just not as consistent as a LBJ or KD yet. Just had some unfortunate games/series these last few years in the playoffs. He just needs that one big shot and big win to get his mojo going. This series is the perfect build-up for that.
