The fact is that if you want a business to pay a certain amount then you have to force them. JPM is already paying over $15/hr and this woman still can't pay her bills. Everything that's happening to her is on the state level. Rent cost, daycare cost, transportation cost. She applied to an entry level job that's applied to often.

Porter's question isn't completely invalid. But in terms of this woman, not being able to pay her bills, that's really on the gov.

People in her situation cant afford to just move to a different state for some low wage job. Especially when you have kids before marriage, people rely on being close to friends, family, and other kinds of support systems when they have kids and cant afford ridiculous child care cost. There are plenty of reasons for why someone might be paying that amount for rent. That's actually normal rent prices for cali, I know people paying similar prices in fukking San Bernardino.


The wage the bank was paying isnt terrible for a starting position, the real problem is that the government has let the cost of living rise to unreasonable levels and dont have any plans for fixing it.

That dude should have ask why $16 an hour at an entry level job isnt enough to survive on anymore, and who's Job it is to fix it.

At least for me, it's more like: blame the right thing. It's an entry-level job, a highly applied to job, requiring only a high school diploma, and people expect it to pay out a living wage.

If that's really the expectation, then it's gonna be a living wage for a single person, no kids, no major outstanding debts.

Anything beyond that will require a complete restructuring of society and the economy.

1. My point is the duty to the employee isnt on the books... correction it is on the books and JP is paying her much more than that

Govt. has made prioritizing shareholders the law. Be mad at the state.
2. "At the behest" Elected officials fold to bribes and you hold the people bribing them more accountable then those we ELECTED. and further you want more government involvement after conceding they are employed by those they seek to regulate.
3. Government is in control of all the levers, therefore they is always culpable in my opinion. You want them to regulate the economy but dont want to blame them when things are it cant work that way. Moreover, JP was exceeding their govt. imposed liability. That's where it ends for me... morality being subjective and all.
4. I was referring to the state not setting a living wage in place despite being run by Dems/progressives for as long as I can remember. But I'll hold the L for being vague(as usual).
