We have different takes on what is an amazing voice then.
I heard Whitney Houston in the early mid 90s, Mariah Carey in the 90s, I've heard Aretha Franklin live albums, and those are amazing voices to me.
Janelle goes off key with her yelling.
She doesn't yell apart from come alive which is suppose to be yelling .
Her voice is amazing and unlike the other acts out there she records everything live .
Those are live instruments she's singing with and crafted from scratch .
Prince was her mentor I guess he doesn't know shyt eithe huh .
Prince was featured on her album can you tell me someone else album he did a feature for in this decade ?

Prince isn't Janelle Monae, you can only try to live and get legitimacy so long off someone else instead of your own work.
As for her arrangements, not a fan, I don't think she makes good music having heard her first two albums, but I accept everyone has different taste.
That said what isn't subjective is her weak voice, and poor vocal performances live. I even saw her sing in the prince tribute on tv, she was singing lets go crazy, more of the yelling and being off key.
So we'll just have to agree to disagree with regard to Monae
