Hands down THE blackest record in a very black, crack fueled era (1986), from the baby girl of the weirdest black family this side of Nas/Kelis/Carmen/Jay/Destiny.

Not only does this album obliterate 'Bad', it also contends with (but loses to) Thriller.

anyone else remember seeing guido bytches jocking Janet in talent shows back then?

also, is 'when i think of you' the greatest song ever recorded? fat Janet was going IN with that hairdo. youtube it, kids.

Jam & Lewis are lords.

i'd have to agree except for that comment bout nas :stopitslime:
but 5 stars, dap and +rep @Big Mel for this thread (excludin' the mention bout nas :dahell:):salute:
anyway, this is where janet found herself and "voice" as an artist of course with the one and only, legendary songwriters and producers jimmy jam and terry lewis
but yeah, this album was needed, along with teddy riley's guy 1st album and the whole new jack swing era

so many hits on this album, "funny how times flies", "what have you done for me lately", "the pleasure principle", "let's wait a while", "when i think of you", "control" :banderas:

listen to how smooth and beautiful this song is

the world was janet's back then :wow:

this type of message is missin' in music today. it's crazy how so much has changed :mjcry:

in terms of all around great artist, it ain't been a better female artist since janet jackson :whew:

beyonce doesn't compare and overrated as hell :aicmon:
rihanna :mjlol:

and i even namin' no others because it's pointless :heh:
remember, after control and it's remixes album then came rhythm nation! who would've ever thought she come back just as hard if not harder dependin' on who you ask :wow:

I'm only familiar with Janet's hits from the 2000's, but I was reading up on Wikipedia earlier today about her "Control" album...

:dwillhuh: and it said that Janet Jackson and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were the leading innovators of modern contemporary R&B.

:ohhh: That makes me wonder what did R&B sound like before the late 80's.

@stomachlines

this had a disco element to it but hey it was the early 80's still tryin to find it's way from the late 70's era of disco lol

a bit funky at times but the gap band and charlie wilson is still r&b at it's core

rick was king of "punk funk" as he proclaimed and a lot of his songs were funky but he had that r&b thing down too
