lol half those games are from one studio (platinum ) and the other half are from 2 gens ago
Japanese developers lost the juicewhen's the last time cap com japan came out with something good?
I hope they rebound but right now only platinum and suda doing anything of note.
Hopefully evil within is good but it got ripped apart at a preview in PAx
Dark Souls 1&2 (From) and Dragon's Dogma (Capcom) shytted on every western Action RPG.
Japan devs own the RPG market and are getting in on the Action genre market.

MGS pretty much perfected the whole Hollywood cinematic experiences for consoles thoJapanese Developers make better games and have superior combat/gameplay systems
western developers focus on making their game like hollywood and cinematic experiences
The combat in about 97% of all games is below par these days.
Mainly because gaming is advancing so quickly that developers are spending more time on graphics/etc to even focus on gameplay enough.
All the work they put into level design, adding this little affect. Even the whole 1080p bullshyt
While companies break there necks to reach frivolous resolutions, then they turn around and release Knack

I agree from a gameplay standpoint, but as an overall package I think skyrim was the best action rpg last gen.Dark Souls 1&2 (From) and Dragon's Dogma (Capcom) shytted on every western Action RPG.

Japanese games were good during the 90's and early 2000's but after that they went downhill. Especially Capcom.

Japanese developers pre HD era were damn near unfukkwitable. Sega, Capcom, Konami, Namco, Nintendo, Tecmo/Team Ninja, Squaresoft, etc. were all putting in work for two decades, dropping classics after classic almost year after year. No one can deny their dominance during the late 80's early 90's to first half of the 2000's.
After 2005 though, that's when HD development started and you noticed that a lot of Japanese games were kinda falling off and the western market began to rise.
Now, they've pretty much all the dev's I listed above are due to rising dev cost's, studio closings/mergers and key members leaving or getting fired. As well as last gen engine issues (looking at you Square Enix
) halting dev time on even a single game to a slow crawl. And don't get me started on their attempt to capture the western audience with reboots and weak attempts at T/FPS (Vanquish and Binary Domain being the exceptions since they were surprisingly dope).
There's still a handful of Japanese dev's out there that still provide piff like Platinum Games, FROM Software, Atlus, EAD Tokyo and to a lesser extent Kojima Productions but nowadays, the big players like Square Enix, Sega, Konami etc. are just shells of their former selves. I had hoped that they would finally get use to HD development this gen but it seems that they're now focused on the handheld and mobile market, while the western gaming market marches on.
