From 93-96 Power Rangers was EVERYTHING to us young brehs and brehettes. Doesn’t matter what race or creed, if you fukked with Power Rangers you had friends. A true worldwide phenomenon.


And Jason David Frank as Tommy was the heart of it. Dude had the persona and swag down to a SCIENCE. He had the BEST storylines. The BEST fight scenes. The BEST powers. The BEST and most ICONIC weapons. And his character showed a lot of kids what it meant to be a leader and also what it meant to sacrifice for the greater good.

Those first couple of seasons he was even the best actor next to Walter Jones (OG Black Ranger)

Power Rangers was Game Of Thrones for kids. Thats the only way I can describe how inescapably popular and influential it was.

Its been like that for at least 10 years. Theres no real rhyme of reason behind it, just two egos.

When JDF started MMA in the late 00’s, ASJ and him start shyt talking each other.

If you look at the photos from the movie premiere, Walter Jones is between them as a buffer. And they just never hashed it out.

And why the fukk didn't they try to adapt some of that darker Power Rangers fanfic stuff people were doing involving Tommy's evil alter ego Drakken? I always thought he would eventually come back as a villain corrupted by all the powers he's accumulated over the years and has to finally be put down for his (and the world's) own good.

They tried too in his last appearance, they did a loose adaptation, but, Netflix is like, completely tearing the show down and starting from scratch. So it’s pretty likely they’ll start following some of the comic storylines.

They got the OG Power Rangers on Netflix. I started watching the Green with evil arc and the acting is bad but once the fighting starts, Green Ranger still gets me hyped

This doesn't even seem real to me, man. I woke up both yesterday and today having to confirm that this even happened.

I've been following JDF for years since Power Rangers, I wasn't a super fan but I was definitely a fan and I kept track of his mma fights, the Bat in the Sun stuff, I remember having not watched Power Rangers in years and walking in the room where my baby bro was watching the new series (the current series at that time) and it was the Forever Red episode and I was like " is that Tommy??" And I sat down and watched the episode with him as it aired live and I was thinking to myself how incredible it was seeing him and Jason and some of the other Rangers I grew up on with the new guys.

As the coli knows, I infamously met the original Black Ranger at a comic con where he hit me with the My friend at the time who attended that con with me went to another one out of state where he was able to meet JDF and take pics with him and I always thought about how cool that was and I wished at the time I could have met him too.

Nothing over the years would have given you the impression that this man was dealing with depression and suicidal thoughts. He literally put the Power Ranger franchise on his back for damn near 30 years.

Even when he wasn't appearing on the show, he was a great ambassador for the show and the brand.

I just hate that this happened.

I'm always of the belief that no matter what you're going through, nothing is worth taking your life. It will get better. No matter how bad things are in this moment, even if it feels like life is totally beating you down, this too shall pass.

Life is precious. Death is final. Once you're gone, you're gone.

I hope that his family and friends are able to find peace.
