It's ironic that you mentioned NY in your post because if, like me, you played sports in the PSAL (NYC's public school league) chances are you and your teammates were either kids who migrated to the USA at a very young age or you were born here but your parents migrated here.

Majority of my teammates were either of West Indian or Eastern European descent, and trust me, that's 2 old-school cultures that DO NOT tolerate their sons acting like little homos. Were there butt slaps? Yes, but that was contained ONLY to the field or court as @Field Marshall Bradley stated earlier, and it was just emulating what we saw the college and pro athletes doing. However, you'll never see any cases of locker-room sexual assault coming out of the PSAL ranks because, let me reiterate, those old world parents DO NOT play that homo shıt when it comes to their children. There's a reason why you only hear of those type of stories coming out small towns and suburban enclaves that are American as apple pie.
