There are 29 teams Aldridge didn't sign with. I'm not blaming any of them.

Kobe was in a unique position where he was incredibly underpaid for what his name brings but overpaid for what he was going to be able to do on the court. Looking at where Aldridge ultimately went, the Lakers were way off. The Blazers had Lillard and a max slot and couldn't keep him because their cupboards were bare, just like the Lakers' were after going all in the year before. Kobe always made a ton but the payroll was always structured to where they could go way over the cap. They lost that ability with guys like Pau and Dwight leaving for nothing. If Kobe played for vet min and the pipe dream of LeBron and Melo came true, that was the only chance.

Why on earth should Kobe accepted the vet minimum?

Everyone gets paid their worth. You are assigning blame to him being paid what he was offered.

I didn't ever say he should. I'm saying that the team would have only contended if the unrealistic ideas of getting LeBron and Melo would have come true, and that would have meant Kobe making nothing. It wasn't happening anyway.

I really don't see the blame :yeshrug: If Kobe is to be blamed for anything, it would be not planning his retirement date earlier. The Lakers probably had time for a full rebuild in 2012 if he had indicated he would play 5 more seasons.
