If you're Alex Rodriguez...who gives a fukk? The Yankees can run out a 300M payroll if they want.

If you're Kobe Bryant...the Lakers don't have unlimited dollars to form the roster. So yeah, your greed matters.

It's highly unlikely that, say...Tom Brady would have had his sustained success if he didn't continuously re-work his contract to allow the Patriots to keep and sign other players.

He technically took a paycut because he accepted less money per year than he got on the last deal.

No one was willing to pay him more than what the lakers gave him so he didn't really take a paycut.
