Because of his influence on rappers and fatherless fans... he effectively made it cool to not prove your worth as a rapper.

hiding behind status, and the artform of subliminal disses and taking shots as safe targets.. he gave himself a pass to never have to prove he was still worthy in battle.

Now, rappers act like they're above responding to anybody who disses them...overall, it's created this passive-aggressive ass aura over rap.

Remember D Block vs. G Unit :ahh: H1n1 vs. 50 :whew: Fat Joe vs. 50 :gladbron: Roc A Fella vs. D Block, Cam shytting on Stan Spit,.....even the Sohh boards vs. Nas

it'd do the game a lot of good for rappers to get back to dissing other rappers..it's cool that these rappers want to be friends, but the rivalries that used to exist in hip hop where why certain rappers are held in the regards they are.

Yah..to pen lyrics that has a good balance of mystery and transparency to where the audience can hae a good sense of who the line/verse is for but still have conversations of speculation takes skill..especially if its one that rides on the aspect of wordplay ie: Jay's diss to wayne on HAM

But like I said..u wouldnt know

Ur more into talentless trash diss records like Hit em up

Jay learned two lessons off Ether. #1 anybody can get that work from anyone under the right conditions. #2 being knocked out in public can mess up your image with makes you your money. Jay was on the verge of being the most popular rap artist and the most respected emcee when he dropped Takeover. When Nas gave him that work he just ended up what he is today: popular.
