man, i was happy when they re-issued this ep as a 2 disc album (1 cd is all instrumentals) a few years back

I clearly remember the first time hearing this, and I didn't even know it was called Ruff Draft. It was way before they re-issued it. My friend had ripped it from vinyl and then burned the WAV files onto a CD. The $ sold me on Dilla as a rapper. I still think he's one of the best producer rappers ever, and Ruff Draft is one of my favorites.

I liked Crushin too, Take It Back, reckless Driving, (Take Notice didn't have any rapping on it when I first heard the EP) but especially the rhyming on The $ and make Em Nv, I was like "You sure this is Dilla" just because it didn't sound like the way he'd rapped on Fantastic Vol. 2.

Either part 5 is on on Youtube or part 6 is labeled wrong and is actually part 5. I dunno.Common freestyling to the Crushin beat at shows is pretty crazy. I never knew that but I'd love to hear that shyt.

I have no idea man. I know there wasn't a video for it until around the time The Shining came out. Definitely after Donuts dropped.

The chameleon of hip-hop IMO, he was influenced by so many producers and styles yet you could still tell it was him on every beat.

But I feel in this particular album (and going forward) he was very influenced by madlib's sound.

I haven't heard another producer in any genre sample shyt backwards, sound so dope and do it twice.

Yea, the beat for 'nothing like this' is actually that dave mason joint played/sampled backwards. 'drop' by pharcyde was another beat done in the same way.
