Ben Goldsmith, the son of billionaire financier Sir James, and wife Kate had fought out a war of insults on Twitter.

Their nine-year marriage finally ended when Deputy District Judge Felicity Crowther granted a divorce in court 5 of the First Avenue House annexe of the High Court in High Holborn.

Their case was listed as Goldsmith BJ v KE in the middle of 26 couples seeking divorce in the morning list.

Neither were present in court.

The acrimonious relationship had reached crisis point last June when Mr Goldsmith, who inherited £300 million, was arrested at their £20 million home in Kensington.

He was suspected of assaulting his wife in a confrontation over texts and emails between her and US rapper Electronica.

Over the following week they exchanged twitter insults which were read around the world.

He described her as “appalling” while she said her life had been “saved” by the rapper.

Mr. Goldsmith’s brother Zac married Mrs. Goldsmith’s sister Alice last month. He has been going out with lingerie model Jemima Jones.

Mrs. Goldsmith, 30 who received £18 million on the death of her father Amschel Rothschild, is still in a relationship with Electronica.

She still lives in her ex-husband Ben Goldsmith’s multi-million pound house in Kensington with their three young children.

But the record company boss was not even in the country for her “quickie” divorce as she is understood to be away.
