His style and technique is effortless and no its nothing new, but unlike any of the Wu affiliates or Monch or Jedi Mind Tricks, he's got a southern cadence and swagger that's more digestible and appealing hence the mainstream cosigns.... Plus for a while he was making some pretty unique music what with the rapping over movie scores and beats with no drums. Part of Kendrick's gimmick is that he can rap really well, so I don't see how its at all baffling that Jay Electronica had (and still has) mainstream props

Kendrick has much more of a unique artistic scope and vision than JE from the little we've heard from him. And unlike JE he doesn't sound like he's from 20 years ago.

JE is from the south but he doesn't sound southern to me. I don't see the southern swagger.

I'm not saying JE's a better artist than Kendrick but he was certainly imaginative and inventive when it came to making songs that were more than just rappity rap

And unlike JE he doesn't sound like he's from 20 years ago.

Most of the music you've heard from him probably came out around 09 or before which was 7 years ago. Even Kendrick and Drake's shyt from 09 sound very dated

And considering he's 39 years old now any of the new stuff you hear from him sounds like how rap should sound coming out the mouth of a 40 year old man

JE is from the south but he doesn't sound southern to me. I don't see the southern swagger.

It's obviously more of a Southern style mixed w/ unmistakeable east coast influences but it's there. His raps overall just have far more soul, bounce, and charisma than any underground dusty Jedi Mind Tricks or Cannibal Ox. Let me just tell you, its not a perplexity that he's gotten cosigns from Jay, Nas, Mos Def and Diddy to Kanye, Big Sean, Kendrick, and Chance the Rapper

I agree with OP, he sounds a lot like Killah Priest, he hasn't made an album yet and he's been dating that rothschild family member before, thats a red flag right there. Imagine a rapper like immortal technique all of a sudden dating someone from the bush family???? It's just stupid

jay elec is a phony rapper, he's like a fictional character, He's talking all that self conscious but his work ethic on music is one of the laziest ever, when he actually has resources to make a huge album.

He's from New Orleans, so he's gotta have some hustle in him.

He just did not use his talent the way you think he should have. It is all about money.

He used his talent to position himself to get into certain social circles. As a result, he has been dating that wealthy woman for years now. There is no incentive for him to put out an album. He would do it if he absolutely had to. He doesn't. He's fine financially. No reason to work.

No different from women that work in certain fields that give them a higher chance of meeting successful men.

Hip hop is for the people. Him dating a member of the family who fukked over millions of people is one of the most anti-hiphop moves that someone could make. It's equal to sellout move. Imagine Rza making a collab song with that jerkoff who bought the only weedplate wu tang album copy? Technically this would open Rza connections to bunch of successful people as well.

Where is the evidence of these connections and him being financially set? I thought he stopped dating that Rothschild bytch. I doubt her circle wanted much to with him.

Wasn't he last seen in the backseat of a car coked out and rambling looking like he was homeless again?

:beli: @ Monch, fail on so many levels, you throwing his name in there invalidates your whole argument with regards to cadence's and whatnot but.... whatever.

I genuinely believe Jay Electronica is one of the finest rappers to ever grace the mic

The level of emotional intelligence he puts into his bars literally has me looking at the human race like ":damn: we fukked up!"

But I guess he not for everyone :manny:

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
First off he obviously can rap well. He's a talented lyricist, there's no denying that.

But I don't see how he stands out from the sea of "lyrical" or "conscious" dudes, or how he had Puffy and Jay Z co-signing him and mainstream rap fans waiting for a major label debut.

I mean everything about him is :flabbynsick:

He's almost 40 and was in his 30's when he debuted :flabbynsick:

He's a dusty bum ass dude...like literally a bum. :flabbynsick:

His rhyme style is nothing new at all. He sounds like or does a style very similar to Killah Priest especially, or many other Wu affiliates, Afu-Ru, Army of Pharoahs, Jedi Mind Tricks, Cannibal Ox, Kemetic Sunz, Pharoah Monch, Rakim, Jeru, or dozens of other mostly underground "knowledge droppin'" rappers :flabbynsick:

He talks all that Illuminati conspiracy bullshyt which is easily debunked by a little historical/political research. We do have the internet now. :flabbynsick:

He talks all that 5 Percenter gibberish. Don't get me wrong, the 5 Percent Nation has contributed a lot of value to hip-hop and it wouldn't be what it is without it. But seriously who still believes in that shyt in the 21st century? :flabbynsick:

Artists that don't sound current enough in hip-hop never prosper and everything about this guy is straight out of 20+ years ago. A dusty flabby old loudmouth knowledge droppin' conspiracy theorist 5 percenter scientifical miracle lyrical dude that sounds like he should've been featured on a Sunz of Man mixtape in 1995. :flabbynsick:
he doesn't have mainstream success

i think a lot of people confuse being a hip hop success with mainstream

can you walk up to 20 random people and ask them about jay electronica and they know ANYTHING about him? no
