Actually an album was just a form of distributing music in the 20'th century. The compact disc format replaced both the vinyl record and the cassette as the standard for the mass-market distribution of physical music albums.. The AudioCD was and is limited by playtime: a little bit less than 80 minutes, which is why traditional albums have the length they have
