He was a massive simp.

He was the equivalent of the guy who can't get over his high school crush. That's like Drake going off to stalk his ex girlfriend. Just silly.

But then again maybe it wasn't about Daisy. Maybe it was just about his ego being bruised. That she essentially treated him like the poor farm boy who had no future. So getting her back wasn't really about her and her once in a lifetime love but, about proving he was good enough to belong in East Egg and that he was just as good a man as Tom and the other people who came from old wealth. If he was secure as a man, he would've basically been a Joseph Kennedy, turning his prohibition money legitimate and creating one of those families he so desperately wanted to be a part of. But because he was insecure, he got back involved with a woman who hadn't thought about him in years, and happily left his ass to die.
