This would of done better in the booth

I think at this point, Jay and Kanye just kind of help bring things to the mainstream. They make certain sounds and genres acceptable to hip-hop, they'll get that pass a lot of times. When that Yeezus dropped I saw multiple people talking about how they didn't like it on the first run but trusted Kanye and kept giving the album a shot. I'll admit on the first listen it didn't sound that good cause I was expecting a Kanye West MBDTF type of album but got something totally different. Kept listening cause I knew there was probably more to it than just a one time listen.

If a new rapper, with the internet hype, classic mixtapes, and a built fanbase, did something totally different on his debut everyone would pan it and never even give it a chance. Kanye and Jay can take those types of risk cause they have a discography that speaks for itself. You know they're good so you'll give them the benefit of the doubt and at least listen a few times before passing judgement.

When did jay take risks?

they are both trash now, as far as im concerned. when they had goals in life, they said more interesting things, and their worst tendencies werent so glaring. now, if they get bored and want to put on some kind of militant or rebellious persona but continue rapping about materialism or some other nonsense it just seems too ridiculous for me. then i have to wonder, are they so stupid that they cant see how ridiculous this all is, or do they think their fanbase is stupid so nothing matters? i guess it's a little of both, either way, count me out.

jay said it a long time ago

Music business hate me cause the industry ain't make me
Hustlers and boosters embrace me and the music I be making
I dumbed down for my audience to double my dollars
They criticized me for it, yet they all yell "holla"

If skills sold, truth be told, I'd probably be
Lyrically Talib Kweli
Truthfully I wanna rhyme like Common Sense
But I did 5 mill' - I ain't been rhyming like Common since

When your cents got that much in common
And you been hustling since, your inception
fukk perception. Go with what makes sense
Since I know what I'm up against
We as rappers must decide what's most important
And I can't help the poor if I'm one of them
So I got rich and gave back, to me that's the win/win

So next time you see the homey and his rims spin
Just know my mind is working just like them

let's see both of these guys been millionaires for how long now? Chances are they don't remember what the "streets" look like. It's the natural progression of corporate music today. NO ONE in hip hop that's been successful for 10 years or more can really relate anymore to their audience. Some do, a small few.

LOL@ Jay Z riding around with spinning rims and him fooling people into thinking he's doing it for all of us

Hip hop, yet another thing money has destroyed.

really though i think they have grown with there auidance. Most of us are not the children who were coming up and learning. We got jobs and some security and perhaps there music is a reflection of that (no where on there scale of course) but like them that hunger and drive might be gone and they are just doing it to get by.

MCHG was aite, and Yeezus was basura, yet and still the cac media crowns their latest efforts as groundbreaking :mjpls:

Did Juan Atkins Richard Davis get the same adoration when they actually made a remarkable

techno album in the 80s called Clear. And, recently, I don't recall Saul Williams get any love for

his Inevitable Rise of nikka Ttardust album, which had Trent Reznor industrial production juxtaposing with alternative rock, over hip-hop lyrics:rudy:

Negativity (Kayfabe)
The albums werent very good. But the beatles , velvet underground, etc. all hung it up after a decade or so for a reason. Jay Z retired after the Black Album. Hes in a 'tunechi' type phase after that album.
Magna Carta Holy Grail = Jiggaman's most uninspired album, IMO

Even though he though he was too-cool-for-school, atleast on Kingdom Come he let his soul breath (Lost Ones), was genuinely creative (Beach Chair is Jay's best "experimental" song) and sounded hungry (Grammy Family freestyle, The Prelude, Trouble).

I hate listening to songs I feel like he wrote down once without editing the lyrics too. The album sounds like he wouldnt even have all the lyrics memorized.

Props on bringing up Juan Atkins....I don't see his name on this board mentioned often, if ever. :salute:

Do you think that even 1% of this board knows who he is? :heh:

When could Jays audience relate to him?
Unless a million successful hustlers turned multi-millionaires bough RD I have a hard time seeing when they could relate.

People feel what Jay is saying or they listen to it the same way they watch a movie or documentary, they are not trying to relate.
Is Childish Gambino better than Wu-tang clan cause he's more relatable to the average black duke?

The main reason to why this point is so extremely stupid is that everyones fan base, specially the more successful you get, is diverse as fukk.
So unless you want to stay rapping about love, not everyone can relate.

I never understood these type of posts. Juan Atkins was as underground as they come, it was in a period in which no one gave fukk about that type of music. Kanye West is a renowned international superstar with like 5 huge solo albums and a few classics produced as well, operating in a genre and era in which entertainment is easily accessible. And you want to compare this to a dude making "weird music", independently in his moms basement and selling like 10 copies.

So either you just want to show that you know these people or you're actually stupid enough to ask these questions and making these observations.
