Jay -Z being the undisputed goat is a narrative created by the corporations he works for

Im from Detroit

So when you say regional its some truth to that but a rapper like Webbie was left in the Wipe me down year in Detroit. While any new Jay z album or feature is played when it drops in detroit. So jay “tiny” piece of the pie in each city is greater than a local artist

I dont know bruh. I partially agree with you. I think its silly when people say "we dont listen to Jay down here". Vol 2 sold like 5 mil in 98...SOME people listened to him everywhere. But for example in the Bay i would assume more people bumped Short or 40 or Mac Dre.

I agree with the you that based on the math and the units sold (especially on big sellers like volume 2 and TBA). But back in the day (im old now...i don't know what these young dudes bump now) you would hear waaay more ball and g, face, jeezy, gucci, etc blasting from cars. Again this isnt a knock to Jay because im sure it was reversed in Brooklyn or like you said Detroit.

My theory is people hate Jay because hes

-rich as hell (and he enjoys telling us bums about it lol)

-called himself the goat repeatedly ("hes arrogant")

-seems happy genuinely (man minds his business)and that irks folks

-they disagree with his business moves or NFL stance and for some weird reason that gets conflated to his music being wack

So i think its more than people not liking his music. I love his music and thinks hes one of the greats...but people arent wrong if they dont like his music....art is subjective at the end of the day.

When you look at everything - lyrical skill, discography, longevity, longevity at or near the top, live performance, influence, sales...hard to find someone over Jay as the GOAT. So and so rapper might surpass him in this or that category, but overall he's at or near the top of all of them.

Facts.

Ice-T said it best, "I think he's one of the best ever, but if you're broke, never got no women and you're not cool, you probably won't like him even though he can rap his ass off". That's all it is. Hip Hop has a lot of insecure fans listening to this sh*t. So they get mad when someone seems to "have it all" and looks happy. That sh*t drives them crazy, lol. So they'll come up with reasons to not like Jay.

Same sh*t happened to LL when he was on his run. Erick Sermon said dudes would be looking for LL after shows to jump him just because he was a good looking cat and their girls had crushes on him. HAHA! This is a hating ass culture. And if you're winning a little too much for people, they'll have an issue with you.

I believe this one hundred percent.

Take say..Cube, Nas, and Jay.....all greats to me and all would kill themselves of they woke up with my bank account tomorrow. If youre insecure about were you are in life, career and financially wise Cube aint gone make you feel a way. Nas, even though he talks that talk aint gone make you feel a way. There are other aspects of their rap persona for you to identify with (militancy, rebellion, hood, man of the people, etc.). Now they all rich as hell but im talking persona on wax.

But if youre broke and insecure and YOU choose to measure success by dollars (versus other valid barometers) the guy saying "Any nikka telling you money is the root of all evil aint got shyt" lol or "nikka you broke, what the fukk you gonna tell me" AND you see it in his real life....that guy is gonna drive the insecure or unhappy broke guy crazy.

Men just have to be men and be secure. When Jay shytted on X5s...i get it hes filthy rich, but i would have drove a fukk outta an X5. Same with Pusha dissing audis saying they for nannies lol....funny line but I will happily push a audi because Im happy with my life and choices.

People identify with music to degrees. When Hey Papi dropped I was in hs or college (cant remember which) with a rotation of multiple chicks. In my mind, shyt jay was rapping my life ("I was the worse I used to switch chicks everyday") lol. But if you aint have no hoes and YOU consider that winning you aint gone like the guy.

To quote a very quotable rapper "Im a real nikka dream, my only goal is to make real nikkas feel seen...sometimes it makes a fake nikka hate life, never my intention, consequences of my way of life"

You arguing both sides. Yes a lot of local artists are bigger than mainstream artists In their city Or surrounding states. But when that local artist leave his city/state. that mainstream artist is more popular in the other 45-49 states.

do u think Rylo, Peezy, or Nocap can do a solo arena show In yall city with no guests?

All day, bro.

yeah-yes.gif

I was the same! When I was in HS and early in college, I had a million chicks, but only with like $20 to my name. But I ain't care because I had mad chicks and I was fresh. So I felt like a damn pimp! HAHA! So I loved hearing rappers talking about spitting game and macking because I felt like I was macking too! My confidence was next level. But if you're not secure in who you are, you're probably gonna get mad listening to these rich rappers talking about their lives and what they have. Their success is going to bother the sh*t out of you.

But that's when it gets weird to me because now it's not about the actual music anymore, it's personal. You don’t ever see any of these people say Jay can't rap. Because they can't. Dude is clearly dope AF on the mic. You can't say he doesn't make music well, so they go into other random sh*t that doesn't have anything to do with the craft. That's how they expose themselves. They'll never say, "He makes me feel bad about my accomplishments in life", lol. So they start nitpicking about weird sh*t like "He doesn't care about Hip Hop culture" and "All he's worried about is money". Meanwhile, you barely hear from or even see Jay now. He's off with his family just chillin' and minding his business. But he makes a lot of these insecure weirdos very mad, for whatever reason.

As an avid JAY Z fan, as I've said in other threads, time has not been kind to Jay's catalogue or the argument of being best rapper alive.

And speaking as a fan, if we truly were to peel back the layers, his goat claim looks worse and worse on the Summer jam screen really examining things.

Quick example: How did NY lose hip hop to the South under his reign?

Not saying that was his responsibility or that falls on him, but it does make you wonder

:umad:

Im not and i agree with the bolded but I would say when they leave their region. Anyway we both Jay fans....I forgot the point we were debating lol.

But yes Jay is great, yes he can sell out anywhere in the country or world...no Lil webbie or Juvenile cant do that.....but yes on a southern tour the crowd will know every word of their b sides and Im not sure they would with Jay. Which like I said aint a diss because Jay did a whole B side concert twice...but regionalism plays a part.

More lies.

Hot 97 was the station playing "Ether" back to back to back. That's how most of us heard it that day.

Hot definitely didn't side with Jay. Y'all gotta stop making sh*t up on here just to hate on dude.
