All day, bro.

yeah-yes.gif

I was the same! When I was in HS and early in college, I had a million chicks, but only with like $20 to my name. But I ain't care because I had mad chicks and I was fresh. So I felt like a damn pimp! HAHA! So I loved hearing rappers talking about spitting game and macking because I felt like I was macking too! My confidence was next level. But if you're not secure in who you are, you're probably gonna get mad listening to these rich rappers talking about their lives and what they have. Their success is going to bother the sh*t out of you.

But that's when it gets weird to me because now it's not about the actual music anymore, it's personal. You don’t ever see any of these people say Jay can't rap. Because they can't. Dude is clearly dope AF on the mic. You can't say he doesn't make music well, so they go into other random sh*t that doesn't have anything to do with the craft. That's how they expose themselves. They'll never say, "He makes me feel bad about my accomplishments in life", lol. So they start nitpicking about weird sh*t like "He doesn't care about Hip Hop culture" and "All he's worried about is money". Meanwhile, you barely hear from or even see Jay now. He's off with his family just chillin' and minding his business. But he makes a lot of these insecure weirdos very mad, for whatever reason.

Exactly.

Bruh people got work on them and be happy. When no 1 stunna dropped Baby was in a fleet of million dollar cars, I was pushing a 1991 85 Oldsmobile (did have candy tho) and that was my theme song because my car was the shyt to me.

Again, if people dont like Jays music...all good. But sometimes it be deeper than that. Its like my theory about why SOME people hate on Lupe but thats another thread lol.

As an avid JAY Z fan, as I've said in other threads, time has not been kind to Jay's catalogue or the argument of being best rapper alive.

And speaking as a fan, if we truly were to peel back the layers, his goat claim looks worse and worse on the Summer jam screen really examining things.

Quick example: How did NY lose hip hop to the South under his reign?

Not saying that was his responsibility or that falls on him, but it does make you wonder

:umad:
Makes you wonder what? He was one of the few dudes holding NYC down while other regions were catching up. Time has not been kind to Jays catalogue? Have you seen the reactions when he takes the stage at his wifes shows and they throw on one of his joints? Jay has 20+ year old records that still get play on the radio, clubs, everywhere.

I don't think you thought this comment through :stopitslime:

More lies.

Hot 97 was the station playing "Ether" back to back to back. That's how most of us heard it that day.

Hot definitely didn't side with Jay. Y'all gotta stop making sh*t up on here just to hate on dude.
I was there bro I know but just because they played the record doesnt mean at all they didnt side and support jay as most of the publications did in that era as well as radio, I mean why do you think nas went on his power 106 rant?

if you want to debate jay vs nas albums we can do that thats fine. they are 1 and 2 all time to me but overall to me nas has been more consistant and MUCH more consistant post 2005 last 20 years

I could probally rap almost every jay song that ever existed, I own ever jay album lol and hes my #2 all time

I can probably rap most of Sir Mix A Lot's singles too. Word for word. Doesn't make me a fan.

Nas went from making the most heralded album and debut ever, to damn near losing his record deal after Nastradamus. Nas is my dude, but he was the epitome of inconsistent. Which is why Jay was pointing all of that out on "Takeover". And in real time, all of us fans back then didn't understand what was going on with Nas either.

you supposed to be the Rap GOAT but didn't do NUFFIN for Hip Hop 50? I ain't like that shyt. You not too good for the artform that made you what you are today. To not do something and literally every other legend did something is disappointing.

But yeah, no doubt a great/legend. But GOAT is opinion anyway.

Again, more excuses to hate on Jay. Blame magazines and radio stations.

Nobody "sided" with Jay. I was hearing "Ether" all day everyday. I wasn't hearing "Takeover" as much anymore after "Ether" dropped.

Nas went on Power 106 because when they did the poll on Hot 97, THE PEOPLE said they liked "Takeover" more. He got mad at Flex because he asked the listeners which song they f*cked with more. So nobody is debating Nas vs Jay in no damn 2025, but let's not start rewriting history just to hate on Hov. None of that is how that played out back then.

thats not what happend lol, nas won the radio vote also but it was super ugly. also just becuase they played ether doesnt mean at all that publications and media personalities have not pushed jay much more over time. thats the OPs main point and has always been mostly consistant

Jay collaborated with Brooklyn Public Library to celebrate Hip Hop's 50th, and did the "Book of Hov" exhibit.

So all of the Hip Hop magazines, record labels, and artifacts, like studio equipment, archived photos, clothes from back in the day, his covers, etc., were all on display to celebrate the 50th. Roc Nation initiated that almost a year before the 50th.

He just didn't hop on stage with other rappers. But he did an exhibit for the people to come see to celebrate the 50th.

but who the fukk said Jay-Z is the GOAT?!!? :what:
Huh? In that debate, his name comes up the most. You might not agree with him as the GOAT, as a lot of people don't, but let's not act that he is not frequently labeled the GOAT by the hip hop community. The only rapper mentioned even close to as much is Pac.

Book of Hov shyt was self serving IMO (but he's never been shy about that).

Couldn't perform one night or be at one show? 1?

Nas was mad because he said that Flex was only speaking to people that said Jay won. Flex said Jay won the poll. That's how the whole issue with him being mad at Flex started. He said Flex rigged it.

So blaming corporations for Jay's success is mad weird. Losers are getting to the point where they're acting like dude hasn't earned his way to the top, but like he's unfairly favored against other people. It just goes to show how far losers will go to come up with theories to sleep better at night. Sh*t is sad.

Jay is one of the greats but JUST ONE.... he's not the GOAT... by any measure or standard...:pachaha: But it does depend on who you ask..
