Nah, that doesn't fit...I differentiated biting and paying homage with clear examples, the gif doesn't make sense. But again, I'm done here, lol, have a good day champion.
The gif definitely makes sense You tried tho:umad:

It puts money in the pockets of whoever owns the publishing for BIG.

Don't they have to give a writer credit or something when they have interpolated or exact lyrics?

:francis:Jay wasnt pulling from past generations tho. He was literally taking from his peers:gucci:pac, big, nas, snoop etc... You tried tho:mjtf:

Was he trying to pass the shyt off of his own, or was he a fan of rap music, making rap music?

Hip Hop has always at it's core been about synthesizing your influences and throwing them back at the world. And with any artistic medium, there's going to be a somewhat blurry line between plagerism and inspiration. You can't really PLAGERIZE Pac, Big, Nas, Snoop dog's public works, ESPECIALLY in real time where they're considered your peers as it would be obvious as to where it came from.

Now lifting shyt from works that aren't public...or an even more recent example, "remixing" an artist song and paying them to take the origonal down so it looks like some shyt you came up with is a different story. Lines get crossed when hide/dress shyt up to take sole credit.

Jay is a business man. Jay continued from what Biggie has built already. There is nothing innovative musically about Jay, he been jumping on trendy waves his entire career. Kudos to him making a lotta money, but he can't tell it like it is. One year he a street hustla, next year he preaching black power, then next year he hanging out with New York cacs and helping national CTE league bring in more clientele. If you are looking for a honest musician, Jay is not the one you are looking for.

We really acting like Jay using those lines is why he blew up? He didn’t “bite” to build his career.
notice how yall are the one's implying that anybody said he use folks lines to blow up:russ: jay used popular lines from big records too remake big records. Did he do that for all his music? No:yeshrug: but yall stan to the point where every critique is an attack to yall:lolbron:

Man if you go back and listen to LAD, the whole album has been picked apart and borrowed by countless artists. Hov started a trend. I’m sure someone did it before him (snoop with lodi dodi) and others but every rapper pays homage nowadays to older rappers. Like someone else said, flipping or borrowing someones shyt that’s popular to pay homage isn’t biting. But taking someone’s shyt and passing it off as your own is. Just giving my take.

like it was dope when drake borrowed dead prez line and so on

When you say a line that everybody knows is somebody elses, AND that rapper who said it was your man? C'mon of course that's paying homage.

Biting is for people lacking in talent. Jay-Z has spit so many original classic rhymes that suggest he needs to bite is beyond stupid.

I always liked when a rapper would flip another rappers line.

Jay using a Big line
Jadakiss using a Rakim line
Drake using a Rappin 4tay line

I enjoy it as a fan of hip hop
If I was rapper I would do it myself
