What these quota-obsessed critics either did not know, or chose to ignore, is that Jay Z and Beyoncé were in Norway. That is where Tidal is based and where the streets are not exactly lined with minorities. Chastising an Oslo tech firm for “being too white” is like censuring a Mumbai call centre for “being too brown.”
Jay Z might have also pointed out that he inherited the Tidal staff after purchasing Aspiro, the Swedish/Norwegian parent company. Or he could’ve simply fired back with, “Man, why y’all so quick to play the race card?”
