He put in 1 Million dollar and came out with 350K

You don't no what Jay-Z will come out with. He has not even sold his shares yet.

The 350k number is what the value of Jay-Z shares are if you divide his percentage with the forbes estimate of the Nets value. He will get more money then that when he sells.

It's baffling how many people are so misinformed. What he's doing is no different to the Kroenke family in Denver. Stan Kroenke sold the Nuggets to his son, Josh so he can buy the Rams in the NFL. Stan still has 100% input into Denver but he simply cannot officially own the franchise while he owns the Rams.

Jay-Z will still have the same role but he simply will not have shares in the te am. The logic that all of a sudden, Jay is walking away and will never be apart of the Nets again is just hilarious.

Especially when he still keeps stake in Barclays. He put his pride on the line to make the brand work despite the NBA not being in favor or Black/White.

Why would Jay walk away from the 4th most popular merchandised team in the league? He took business venture over his stake. If he could, I’m sure he would love to get it back. It’s not even out of the question, he could sell it to Beyonce and keep the investment going now that there is profitability coming out of it.

If you checked my post earlier, I said a positive was he was able to get a 40/40 club in the Barclays. Jayz was playing concerts at Madison Square Garden, he didn't need to be an "owner" to get concerts, he's concerts are more to do with Roc Nation. If he was making so much money being an "owner" with the Nets why sell your portion at a loss?? to take on the risk of being an agent? Why not just stick to being an agent with MLB and the NFL and keep your portion with the Nets? Check out more of your basketball economics with being an NBA owner, it's not as profitable as you would think and owning a 40/40 club is not as profitable as you would think either

Atlantic City’s 40/40 Club Closed Because of Financial ‘Disarray,’ Not Sandy -- Grub Street Philadelphia

And the New York club had many violations so was forced to go through a 10 Million dollars re-launch

You Jayz stans act like this niggga never loses in life, stop it. There was no "brand building" with being the owner of the nets.
Added to his legacy....:heh:
Most of his stuff comes from the Roc Nation deal.

He put in 1 Million dollar and came out with 350K

As Mark Cuban said the money in owning a NBA franchise comes from the appreciation of the value of the franchise, not the year to year operations.

I think Jay wanted the bigger picture, which is Barclays Center. Granted, he has a small ownership in that, but like this Forbes article said -

But Jay-Z may have already found a work-around. Though he once owned as much as 1.5% of the $530 million team, his stake has dwindled to one-fifteenth of one percent.

Why? Jay-Z’s representatives didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment, but it seems he may have converted the difference into equity in the Barclays Center. He owns now owns roughly one-fifth of one percent of the billion-dollar building.

If I was thinking like Jay, I'd want to invest more equity into the arena itself. He already has stores & clubs in the arena itself. So he'd see a portion of that revenue. Then possibly other sporting events, NCAA events, etc, he could get a portion of that. Also with concerts, using his music connects, he can try to pull artists to perform shows at Barclays, gets a portion of that too.

I think he just wanted to bring an arena to Brooklyn more than anything, he just had to invest in the team & be the central figure into making it happen.

Jay Z's partnership with a sports agency will not force him to sell his small share of the $1 billion Barclays Center.

Keep investing more into the arena, that's what I'd do & I think Jay is doing just that

Jay Z is a business man. Partially owning the Brooklyn Nets is a way for him to divest his assets. It would have been a little crazy to put all his eggs into one basket, i.e. the Nets, because his main business is music entertainment business, because he has more experience, knowledge and clout in that industry.
If he pulls out, big deal.
It wouldn't surprise me if he quits the performance, writing, and production part of his music business to put more time into sports and entertainment management.

"Now look at me I can park at my own arena"

:scusthov: @ the Maybach he parks being worth more than his stake in the franchise...

Negro sensibilities
Jay Z does not own Barclays.
Jay Z takes the subway to games.

:ohhh: Damn so when Prohorov bought in and the shareholders shares of the Nets where to be diluted, they where given equity in Barclays? And Jay is also going to be able to keep is his stake in the building. Damn, pretty smart maneuvering.

I also wonder if he does not just own a stake in Barclays, but the whole Alantic yards development.
