It's always Jay when it's something negative. Same thing when he was CEO/President at Def Jam. When an artist did good, it was all LA Reid's doing, even though said artists said Jay was the one who signed and molded them. When an artist did bad, it was all Jay's fault, and LA Reid was never mentioned. :manny:

The funny thing is Hov declined to sign another contract to stay CEO/President when his contract was up, and LA Reid was fired from his position at Def Jam (as it really went to hell after Jay left).

I think it was Dame. Dame was the one brokering the deals, making the arrangements, fighting for his artists, signing artists, putting the label in positions to be successful, and lucrative. He was a shark at the time when you had to be a shark to survive in those waters. Dame's problem is that success is about perfect timing, and he was trying to duplicate what he had at Roc to no avail. He's also not Diddy, so it's not like he can go perform. Then you have all of the old-timers who had relationships with her are extinct.

Now, of course the climate of doing business has also changed and now you really don't need the sharks; mostly all of them have migrated out of the game. Jay-Z was the artist, but he's also a brand onto itself, so what did they need Dame for when Jay-Z in name alone is good enough? As a pure executive, I don't think Jay-Z was good at all. No one at IDJMG received any promotion for the entire stretch, and the handling of the Roc Nation artists hasn't been well either. I think that Jay-Z has a good business sense on handling his on career, mingling with the correct people and surrounding himself with people that would better his status and further his career. That does not mean that he knows how to personally run a business, which is not a bad thing. I do think that he has picked up enough things along the way to stay afloat though. LL said "Just because I can bake a cake does not mean that i am fit to run a bakery".

Neither. Steve Stoute is responsible for Jay-Z success in the business world. Jay is just smart enough to listen.

What does this have to do with the topic? All I said is people seem to pick and chose to shyt on him when it seems convenient meaning Jay was in charge of all the business when something messes up but when things went well he is just talent In the ROC days.:yeshrug:

So you mean to tell me acts like Young Jeezy, Rihanna, Nas, Rick Ross, Ludacris, Ne-Yo, and Kanye West all sold well while he was there with no promo?

Ghostface even moved over 100k 1st week and debuted at #4 with Fishscale under his watch (he was even Executive Producer for it).

But this never happened he had people doing it behind the scenes....lol thats what is going to be said when you bring this up. And how dare Jay go on vacation when DMX album gets put out nevermind that DMX was supposed to do some promo not go to jail.

This what I came in to say. People want Jay to be the bad guy, and it would be easier that way, but most evidence points to Dame.

Beanie said on Breakfast Club that Dame basically screwed him out of a lot of money, especially over the SP clothing deal.

Most artists beef with Jay is effectively over a lack of shout-outs, "looks" and verses. When it's Dame, it's actually about money.
