BP3 gotta be his worst

Breh I remember literally forcing myself to like the damn album. I never done anything like that, because if its ass its ass. BP3 went off the damn rails after Thank You. The whole album just felt like I was the bad guy for not owning famous painting. Like fukk me for not going on vacations and island resorts. You broke fukking koala, we popping champagne while you eating poisonous leaves:scusthov:.

I think many have KC, BP3, and MCHG at the bottom of his catalog. I only remember The Source going overboard for KC. They gave it 4.5 mics and I was shocked.
:gucci: Nah, breh. I vividly remember Camel going on The Breakfast Club around the time Magna was released and him rating it high. Saying that it’s his best album (after RD) or something like that.

A young @KnickstapeCity was sitting there watching that shyt like :gucci:… Nikka…

:mjlol: Nah, I don’t know how old you are but a nikka was in his last year of HS at the time so I remember the all hype surrounding the release of this album. At that time, Camel was doing all these HP commercials as well as Budweiser commercials. Also, if I recall, he was in a Budweiser Super Bowl commercial.

lol I was in 8th or 9th. I liked the song but the cameos in the video were weird dale earnhardt jr and shyt :dead:

thats what I’m saying though Budweiser became the sponsor for made in America under roc nation, he laid the foundation years in advance :wow:

Last 2 good jigga albums was WTT and
AG before and after that lots of duds. Personally to me last alvum jigga sounded like himself was vol 3 after that he been degrading talent wise and went euro, pop, bougie :scusthov:

He got used to all the praises and gimmicks after the Black Album. Which in turn would have more staying power and be more praised had he stayed retired. :manny: .

I tried listing songs from that album worth revisiting and only came up with these:

Already Home
Thank You

I like "Venus vs Mars" and "Reminder" (the chorus/hook has to go though). "Empire State of Mind" is a cool single, but overplayed. "Run This Town" is cool and "DOA" was dope for its time. Still like the beat.

@Blessed Koala is correct....BP3 started off like it was about to be fire...after track 2, it went down bad.

I like

Intro (What we talkin bout)
Thank You
Real As It Gets (Mainly due to Jeezy giving him a fire hook)

I dare you to make it through this whole record without laughing

That's Jay Z. I still remember the article where he had the actual CD's stacked in order from best to worst. MCHG was like #4. I wasn't shocked because he said he ranked them based on where he was at in his life. I didn't agree with his ranking, but could see the logic in it.

I forgot "What We Talkin Bout" existed. That was dope too, but yes, it fell off the rails quick and then ends on "Young Forever", which always sounded like background music for an anti aging cream commercial.

The first half of Kingdom Come was really good. I listen to it from time to time with no problems. Some of those songs are highlights in Jay's career ("The Prelude," "Lost One," "I Made It"). I just pretend the album is an EP and call it a day.

If anyone's curious, a reason why Kingdom Come turned out the way it did is because it was rushed. L.A. Reid was pressuring Jay to make a new album because a lot of jobs were on the line and his comeback album was guaranteed to sell records. Jay would be performing on stage and have to go into the studio to record songs immediately after. That's why for most of the album, he sounds sick because he lost his voice on stage.

The Prelude was cool but Preemo flipped that sample way better for M.O.P.’s Salute Pt. II for whoever said it’s maybe his best intro HELL NO :gucci:

MCHG > Kingdom Come

Kingdom Come has some really good songs on it but the second half of that album is trash :beli:

If you asked Jay right now about MCHG, his opinion would be much lower. He's usually in tune with what people like from him and what people don't. But in 2013, there's no way he was going to say MCHG was a bad album or it wasn't near the top of his list. No artist is going to do that when it comes to their new project, because they believe it's their best work so far. Once the reviews come in and some time passes, the artist doesn't feel the same anymore.

Then again, some artists are going to defend bad albums until the day they die (Eminem with Revival).

I really fukked with MCHG hard when it came out. That album went hard as fukk when it came out yo :blessed: I rock with it easily more than his weaker albums like Vol. 3 & Kingdom Come & even more than BP3 or 4:44 & even American Gangster:manny:

It wasn't just him that rated MCHG, it was a favorite for a lot of people at the time. It just got old really fukking quickly and you realized how bad the album really was over time.

shyt is Euro-Hov to the max. Picasso Baby had me in an existential crisis. I couldn't believe he heard that shyt back and said, "YES! THAT'S THE ONE" and then that video that came along with it. :mjcry:
