All entertainment is suffering....all the broadway and high end shows are financed by Boomers and above are done....forever...

You cant compare the future of a Broadway show to a Lil Boosie concert. Hiphop is dead...shows anyway until the end of 20201 at the earliest

Hmm...well everyone had to be able to read and write music to make a living in 1890 and most were in extreme poverty.

Not gonna happen in 2020 and many artists were already struggling before the pandemic....

Hopefully labels get wrecked and the independent can rise again.

What makes you think it can’t happen in 2020?People have always found a way, what makes now any different? There is research that suggests that music predates language itself.

and even then, in 2020, you don’t have to be able to read or write music to perform it. Even back then you didn’t. Like I said, people have always found a way, and unless computers and the internet cease to exist, creating, learning, selling and consuming music is and will be 100x easier than it was in 1890, hell, 1990. The casual listener also doesn’t have the same standards for music as people did back then.

And there have always been more people “struggling” at any given profession than “succeeding”. That’s just capitalism. :yeshrug:

bbbbbut Jays a billionaire, based on his ownership stake in Roc Nation :troll:

Well, if multi-billion dollar companies are laying people off and asking workers to take a paycut, why is Roc Nation any different? Businesses far wealthier lay people off on a whim. Not because they don't have money but because it doesn't make business sense to keep people who are not doing anything. If you're not making money, you have to cut the expenses. That's why I encourage everyone to bet into working for themselves. They'll never have to rely on anyone taking food off their plate. I need to heed this advice myself.

Might be a wrap for the music industry, their model is based on live performances and pushing merchandise at shows. Streaming doesn't generate money like that.
Spotify and Apple Music generate over 10-15 billion bucks per year and 70% of that (should) goes to the owner of music (and podcasts etc).
So that's 7-10.5 billion only counting two of their sources not Google, Amazon and other major sources, but it's not generating money, like that?

The best thing with streaming for labels is that the distribution costs have damn near vanished and the income is steady, specially for solid catalogues and hits.

Why do people just lie and other people just eat it up when the answer is 1 google away :snoop:

UMG, 7.2bn revenue, 5.6 from recorded music, 1 from publishing and 0.5 from Merchandising & Other, but their business is based on Merchandising & Other

Thriving :ld:

As long as people have a desire to make and listen to music, which they have since the beginning of time, the industry will survive, whether it be through independent street performers and handwritten sheet music, or major label album sales and streaming services

lol, the sheet music era and the recorded music era are damn near 2 completely different things.
